Hill Stations in Bangalore

Hill stations have always been the most attractive places to be in during the summers. The hills of Karnataka are largely located on the Western Ghats of mountains. Every hill station does portray a unique landscape and scenic beauty in itself and so no two hill stations could be compared to each other.

There are large numbers of hill stations in Bangalore, some of which have been inhibited since a long time; they used to be the common retreats for the various Dravidian, Muslim, and British rulers. Whereas there are some which has been developed in the recent times.

Horsley Hills Near Bangalore

It is about 140 Kms from the capital city of Bangalore and somewhere around 144 Km from Tirupati. One of the closest towns near the hills is the Madanapalle.  The best part of visiting this location is to go through the temple which is quite renowned. 

The name of the temple is Mallamma Temple and the Rishi valley school. It’s also considered as the departure point for the Koundinya Wild life Sanctuary which is around 87 km away. The narrow roads towards the summit are quite scenic.

Most parts of the hill is covered with dense and lengthy growths of eucalyptus, allamanda, gulmohar and jacaranda trees. Some other tourist attractions across the Horsley Hills Bangalore are – Lake Gangotri, Gaalibanda, Museum of Horsley Hills, Environmental parks etc. 

It also offers Zorbing in India. But it has to be booked a day before and is booked on the group basis of 20 people. Some other enthusiastic adventurous options are trekking and rappelling.  It’s on an altitude of around 1260m above the sea level. Also the visitors can go through the 150 year old Eucalyptus which is called as Kalyani

Yelagiri Hills Bangalore

It’s another hill station which comes under the district of Vellore (Tamil Nadu).  It is situated off the Vaniyambadi Tirupattur road (which is located on the altitude of 1410 meters above the sea level and spreads across the area of around 30 Km per square. 

It is surrounded by the lovely orchards, green valley and wonderful roses. It dates back to the British colonial days. It was once known as the private property of the Yelagiri Family of the zamindars.

The houses of  zamindars still exists in the Reddiur. Although it’s not much developed like other hill stations like Ooty and Kodaikanal,

It comprises of around 14 hamlets and different temples all across the area. The highest position is Swamimalai hills which is standing tall at a height of 4338 ft.

The summit is quite spectacular.  It provides a large number of trekking trails through the thick forests. On the Yelagiri hills Bangalore, people do enjoy the famous festival of summer in the month of may.
